Brad Tursi is ready to tell his story.

The established singer/songwriter — who makes up 1/5 of the chart-topping, award winning group Old Dominion — is showing fans a different side of who he is with the release of his first-ever solo album Parallel Love on music streaming platforms today (July 19).

“It’s very exciting. There’s just so many songs that I wrote that over the years of being in Nashville that I knew wouldn’t really fit Old Dominion, and it was just kind of a good time,” Brad tells Celeb Secrets about releasing Parallel Love in an exclusive interview. “I had the sort of the ways and means to just record these songs that have been hanging around that I’ve just been playing on my couch, and it was time to give them a real life.”

A batch of songs that have been written over the past 10 years, Parallel Love reflects where the accomplished artist, guitarist, and writer is in the present moment. Revealing that the project is “a departure” from Old Dominion, Tursi hopes that Parallel Love can help fans see what he brings to the band while showing the world who he is outside of it — “a lover, a friend and a musician.”

“I would say it’s definitely a little more singer/songwriter-y, a little more, you know, on the mellow side, which is definitely where I live when I’m writing songs for myself,” the musician shares. “They’re just really songs that are written about things that have actually happened to me or moments in my life that I’m fully expressing. It’s sometimes harder to do that when you’re collaborating or you’re writing for the marketplace, you’re not always drawing directly from your own personal experience.”

“So this was just an opportunity to be able to do that, which was really enjoyable. That’s why there’s several songs I wrote by myself on the record. It’s just kind of a different experience in that way too,” he continues.

And while he says “it’s a nice little journey to have on the side,” Tursi reveals that he didn’t know if he was ever going to release it. After the label wanting to share the project with the world, the singer/songwriter brought his bandmates together for that conversation, and to no surprise, they were nothing but supportive.

“In the beginning, I didn’t even know if I was going to release it. It was sort of a passion project, but once I handed it into the label and management to show them that I made this, they were so excited and wanted to put it out,” he recalls.

“I was like, ‘oh geez, I have to break the news here to the guys,’ but they were nothing but supportive. A lot of bands that have influenced us — whether it be Pearl Jam or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers or The Eagles — they’ve all done their own little spin-offs. Everyone has their own thing they want and have to offer to the world, so they were very supportive,” he says.

In addition to promoting his solo project, Brad is out on the road with his bandmates as Old Dominion have been playing major festival slots across North America throughout the summer. Last month, the band released their new single “Coming Home,” which reflects on their journey heavily touring the last few years. Officially ready to “come home” and do what they love, which undoubtedly is making music, the track is the first taste of the band’s highly-anticipated project following Memory Lane.

With a wheezing harmonica, stomping backbeat, and vocal forward chorus breakdown before an “all jam” play out, everything about the song written by Old Dominion and longtime collaborator/producer Shane McAnally creates the kind of connection and desire that’s meant to combust and slow burn at once.

“I think everyone at some point suffers from that separation desperation,” Matthew Ramsey says in a press release. “You’re living your life; you know what you’re doing is totally worth it. But then when you turn the truck, car, bus or airplane home, there’s this energy that sweeps over you – and it feels good.”
